Japan Health Insurance Premiums to Decrease

Beginning April 2021, health insurance premiums in Japan will decrease from 9.87% to 9.84%. The country’s nursing insurance premium will also increase from 1.79% to 1.80%. These contributions are split between the employer and employee. The contributions are split between the employer and the employee.

Japanese employees will see the changes reflected in their salaries beginning April, 30, 2021.

In Japan, there is a National Universal Health care system. All employees who are enrolled in social insurance benefit from the national coverage. Employees receive a social insurance card and with that card, they can visit any medical facility of their choice to receive health care and pay 30% of standard costs.
