#TalentTuesday: Global Benefits with Chavel Augustine
What are you most passionate about in your work?
I got into HR essentially to help people. Growing up, my parents always wanted me to be a doctor or a lawyer. I wanted to find another way to help people. Being in human resources you are customer service, and you are enhancing workers’ lives and holding integrity within a company.
Why did you select global benefits as a career?
When I graduated college, I already had experience under my belt. I went out to various staffing agencies. Someone presented this great benefits administrator role, and the rest is history! I did domestic benefits for 10 years, and I felt the domestic part started to become repetitive, and I was ready to take on a new challenge.
What is the biggest lesson you’ve learned along the way?
I think the biggest lesson is utilizing your resources. It’s always good to network in this business because it can take you a lot further. Plus, if you have likeminded people it helps you as well. Teamwork goes a long way. One of the things I like about Papaya is that it’s small. It feels like family as opposed to when things feel really corporate. Those connections internally and externally can go a long way.
Do you have advice for others?
I think the best advice is to make sure you truly love what you are doing because you spend most of your time doing it. Make sure it makes sense to you and you feel like you are making a difference; it’s purposeful.
